Merchants Large and Small Accept Credit Cards

Merchants Large and Small Accept Credit Cards

Long ago people used credit cards for large purchases, and they often did not think about using their credit cards very often. Currently, many merchants accept credit cards for large purchases and small purchases as well. In the past, people would use their credit cards to buy a washing machine, but they would not dream of making a small purchase with their credit card. Small coffeehouses now accept credit cards so people sometimes pay for a cup of coffee by swiping a card. The large department stores have had a policy to accept credit cards for many years, but now the small convenience stores accept credit cards as well.

Gas stations accept credit cards so most people drive up to the pumps and pay for their gas. The fast food joints that would never accept anything but cash a few years ago, now accept credit cards for a burger and fries. These fast food places accept credit cards for a soft drink in some places. The donut shop will accept credit cards for a chocolate donut or a whole dozen of raspberry filled donuts. Those with a very high credit limit know that those who sell luxury cars accept credit cards for the car and a great stereo system as well.

Merchants Accept Credit Cards From People In Their Pajamas

Brilliant people developed computers, and then they developed many services for these computers. Later some of these same geniuses developed the internet where many merchants set up websites. Some of these websites sold clothing, and other websites sold chocolates. There are now websites for education and websites for banking. One of the great things about all of these innovations is the myriad tasks people can do using these websites. People do not need to have cash to use these websites because most of them accept credit cards.

People in their pajamas can use their credit cards to study history online or gamble at another website. These people do not have to leave their homes to do many different things because they can use their credit cards to pay for the services that they use via the internet. Many merchants will take a credit card to pay for an order of chocolates or a brand new car. People in their pajamas can look at the latest model cars from many different manufacturers. After checking out a number of cars, these people still in their pajamas can check the consumer reports before entering their credit card number to purchase their next automobile.

Question by adrixia: Anybody do online credit card processing? What are the percentages you pay?
My husband was griping about his 2.4% fees for processing credit cards through paypal. I had a rough time finding different service’s percentage rates. If you process credit cards online, which company do you use and what percentages do you pay? I don’t think 2.4 is too bad, but I don’t really know.

He also pays $ 30 per month to have the service. He only does online transactions. About 200 per month.

Best answer:

Answer by Lauren F
2.4% is about the going rate unless his 200 transactions per month add up to more than ,000 each. Once you get above 0,000 you might get a slightly better rate.

He could also decide to only take other forms of payment – or add the 2.4% to his prices.

The History of Credit Cards and Its Invention

The offering of credit to the consumer can be automated by means of a credit card. Shopping transactions are speeded up by credit cards by carrying an identifiable number. Had it not been available a credit purchase would have turned into a laborious process of recording your identity, address and repayment terms.

The origin of credit cards were in the United States by 1920’s where customers were issued with credit cards by individual firms like hotels and oil companies, although references about credit cards can be found as early as 1890 in countries such as Europe.

In earlier credit cards sales occurred between the customer and the merchant, who offered the credit card. The companies started accepting cards of each other by 1938.Today purchases can be made using credit cards from numerous third parties.

Credit Card Shapes

Plastic is not the only material for the construction of credit cards. Early tokens of credit seen its creation paper, metal, fiber and celluloid.

John Biggins was the inventor of the first credit card to be offered by a bank. He also invented a program called charge it between local merchants and bank customers.

The issue of credit card by Diners club occurred in 1950 in United States. Frank McNamara who was the founder of Diners club did the invention. A customer could eat at restaurants without cash that accepted credit cards of Diners’ club. The restaurant would get the payment from diners club who were in turn paid by the holder of the credit card. Technically rather than being a credit card it happened to be a charged card, as the payment had to be made fully by the customer when it was billed.

The issuing of first credit card of American express happened in 1958. This year also saw the birth of BankAmericard (now commonly known as visa).

Credit card Popularity

The first promotion of credit cards was for salesman who had use for them on roads. Early 1960s saw the offering of credit cards by more companies, which advertised them

as a device that saved time instead of as a credit form. Master card and American Express saw themselves becoming hugely successful overnight.

Active credit cards being mass mailed to those who did not request them and such practices were banned by US Congress in the mid 70’s. Although all regulations were not friendly for the consumer. Nowadays credit card lenders keep on increasing the interest rates with no explanation or warning. Lenders are always on the look out for employment of new tactics for extracting larger penalties for the slightest infringement of the payment rules. The most important factor is to read the agreement of credit card rules to ensure there is no trouble from it afterwards. However it is a requirement most people fail to do.

Another is the payment of only required minimum that leads to increase of credit card debts.

Credit Card Logos on your Homepage Will Increase Sales

Advertise Credit Card Logos and Optimize Internet Sales

, displaying what kinds of credit cards the store will take. Customers sort of take for granted that they will see those things. Often customers will walk away, and the merchant will lose the transaction if they can’t see the logos.

The internet world isn’t different! Studies indicate that one of the first things an internet buyer eyes on your web page is a credit card logo. A credit card logo is essential, in that it informs the consumer of a few things. First it tells the customer that you’ve got an online merchant account, such as Authorize.net gateway, and that you accept credit cards. Secondly, this credit card logo relays to the buyer explicitly what cards you accept. Lastly, seeing the credit card logo image gives the consumer with confidence. Customers will know you’re “an authentic company” since the logo shows them you have got a merchant account and you accept certain types of credit cards.

To have online success, you should provide your customers with many options for payment. At a bare minimum, your retail merchant account should allow you to welcome the following types of credit cards: Mastercard, Discover, Visa, and American Express. You’ll find several methods to add the credit card logo on your website. When you setup your retail merchant account, you likely got a welcome kit from your merchant account processor. If you’re decent with a scanner, you ought to be able to scan the credit card logos, convert them to an jpg or gif format, and publish them to your web page. This procedure isn’t too difficult, but it’s definitely not the easiest method to place the logo on your internet site.

There are a lot of websites on the internet that offer credit card logos. Some sites charge you for them, some charge nothing. How To Get An Interest Free Credit Card

How To Get An Interest Free Credit Card

As competition in the UK credit card industry has consistently increased in recent years, credit card providers have been searching for more and more ways to attract customers to their own package of products. Most have gone about this by dropping prices with credit card rates available today that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. It is now possible to find 0% credit card interest rates not only on balance transfers but also on purchases. While these rates may only be available for limited introductory periods of a few months, it is easy to see how prices have continued to drop across the market as credit card providers have been searching for new ways to attract customers.

Interest free and credit card may sound like a couple of words that really do not belong together in the same sentence. And the fact is that just a few short years ago, you would have been absolutely correct. There was a time not too long ago when there was no such thing as the 0% credit card. Now however, they are everywhere you look, literally. You cannot even open your mail any more, or answer you phone without being offered some amazing sounding deal on 0% credit cards. They are becoming more and more common and it is therefore important to realise the pros and cons of many of the most common deals that are out there so that you make sure that you get for yourself the very best deal on a 0% credit card possible.

The first thing to remember in any case is that there are two main types of 0% interest that you will be offered and these are very different deals. The first will be 0% on balance transfers and the second will be 0% on purchases. It is needless to go into the difference between a balance transfer and a purchase but suffice it to say that there is a very significant difference and there will be many cases where one of these offers will be of great value to you while the other will be practically useless. The trick is to make sure you make sure what you are being offered and only sign up to a deal that you are confident will fit your needs and benefit you as much as possible.

The best place to start looking for one of these 0% credit cards is on the internet. The fact of the matter is that in recent years the UK credit card market has really saturated itself with amazing sounding deals and the competition is so high among credit card providers now that it is really quite easy to get a 0% credit card.

The two exceptions to this and the groups that will find it more difficult to get a 0% credit card will be people with bad credit ratings and people with no income. Hopefully, in either of these two cases, the situation will not last forever and you will merely have to wait a little while until your position improves and then you will have no problem at all getting 0% credit cards. The only real thing to remember with 0% credit cards is that the free credit will only be for a couple of months and after this time you will have to pay interest. And secondly, everything you spend on that credit cad has to be paid back eventually so take care not to let that spending get out of control.

Don’t despair if you are not accepted for many of the credit cards on offer. It may be your credit rating is not what some credit card companies are looking for. If this is the case you will have to do a little more work and that starts by aiming a little lower. Try applying for a run of the mill credit card with no 0% deals, use it for a while. During this period your credit rating will be building up. Once your credit rating is up to scratch you can then apply for these mouth watering 0 per cent introductory deals.

Increase Your Sales By Accepting Credit Cards

Increase Your Sales By Accepting Credit Cards

It’s a given that running an online business means that you need to accept credit cards. If you don’t then you are losing as much as 70% of your sales to competitors who do accept credit cards according to an article published by Forbes Magazine. But it’s not just online businesses that suffer lost sales by not accepting credit cards. That same 70% figure, and higher in some cases, is applicable for off-line businesses as well.

Most People Do Not Carry Much Cash

Thanks to direct payroll deposit and debit cards, 50% of Americans carry “a few singles and may a five or ten” and 40% carry “around or less including coins” according to an opinion poll conducted by one company recently.

This means that even if you are selling low-priced items you will be chasing away as much as 90% of your potential customers if your product or service costs more than they are carrying with them at the moment and you don’t accept credit and debit cards.

Even Starbucks, which has an average sales transaction amount of , does the bulk of their business with credit card and debit card transactions.

Statistics indicate that the average American carries at least four credit cards and nearly all Americans carry a debit card. You’re missing a lot of purchase opportunities if those cards aren’t welcome at your business.

Most Consumers Prefer Paying By Credit Card

Not only do consumers avoid the inconvenience of carry cash, which includes the threat of loss or theft, but they also enjoy the security of knowing that their bank is willing to back them up should they end up in a dispute with your business over the quality of your products or services.

Then There Are The Rewards Programs

A lot of credit card programs offer cash-back or other incentives for every dollar that a consumer charges to their card. People who are enrolled in rewards programs will go out of their way to pay by credit card and avoid using cash at all costs. If your business doesn’t want to help them earn their rewards, they’ll simply find another business that does.

Credit Cards Are More Convenient For Big-Ticket Purchases

Customers who are spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a product simply expect to be able to pay by credit card. This is especially true for those customers who cannot afford to pay for their purchase all at once and who are planning to pay the balance off over a period of time.

Some Customers Are Forced To Use Credit Cards

Employees who are making purchases on the behalf of their employers, or employees who travel on company business, are often issued company credit cards which they are expected to use for all purchases. Accounting for cash expenditures, and the subsequent process of reimbursing the employee for their out-of-pocket expenses, is a nightmare for businesses. If you don’t accept credit cards, these employees are shopping elsewhere.

You’re Losing Out On B2B Purchases

Many companies that are making purchases of products or services for their own internal use or for resale prefer to pay with a credit card for accounting reasons. Not accepting credit cards means that you are losing out on the opportunity to serve repeat customers who are being forced to take their business elsewhere.

Hopefully you’ve found one or more good reasons to start accepting debit and credit cards at your business. And if the reason you’re not accepting them is because you think you can’t afford to, think again. The truth is: You can’t afford not to!
